Google Tag Manager: Event Tracking for Google Analytics

Guide for Connection to Google Analytics with Google Tag Manager

Please note that this method only works for Universal Analytics. For GA4 this method won’t work and you should install gtag.js code on your website.

  1. Log into Google Tag Manager account. 

  2. Select Tags in left sidebar.

3. Create a new tag with tag type Google Analytics: Universal Analytics.

**note: If a tag with tag type Universal Analytics is created, then you may skip this step.

4. Click on Enable overriding settings in this tag and add Tracking ID [Google Analytics ID] (it should look like UA-********-*. I.e. : UA-90528763-1 )

5. Click tab More Settings.

6. Click Advanced Configuration.

7. Select Set tracker name as True and in Tracker Name input "t0" in the space provided.

8. Click Triggering area.

9. Click All pages trigger.

10. Click Save in right top corner.

11. Popup with Tag creation popup will be closed. In right top corner click Submit, then Publish on next screen and on next screen Continue.

12. Click on your GTM ID and you’ll receive installation codes for your website.
